Dear IFHIMA Members, Colleagues, and Friends,
September brings another opportunity to celebrate progress across IFHIMA. As IFHIMA welcomes new leaders, recognizes those who have served, and continues to strengthen the global voice of Health Information Management.
I am pleased to warmly welcome June Bronnert as IFHIMA President-Elect for the remainder of the 2025–2028 Board term. June brings valuable experience and commitment to IFHIMA, and I look forward to working with her as we continue advancing our priorities and our global federation.
This month, IFHIMA also marks an important leadership transition within our Communities of Practice. I am pleased to welcome Dr. Karima Lalani, Dr. Diane Dolezal, and Dr. Elise V.Z. Lambert to the leadership of our Research Community of Practice, and Michelle Badore and Tanai Lobban to the leadership of our ICD-11 Community of Practice.
As we welcome our new CoP leaders, I also extend sincere appreciation to Kathy Giannangelo, ICD-11 CoP, and Susan Fenton, Research CoP, our outgoing CoP Chairs, for their leadership, commitment, and contributions.
We are also entering an exciting phase in IFHIMA’s future development with the onboarding of Advantage Consulting to support our strategic planning process. This is an important opportunity for us to reflect on our progress, listen to our members and stakeholders, and collectively shape IFHIMA’s priorities and direction for the years ahead. As this work progresses, we will be reaching out through various communication channels for your input and support, and I encourage you to take the opportunity to share your perspectives and help shape IFHIMA’s future.
I also invite you to explore IFHIMA’s new Global News platform. The Global News is a space for our international community to share knowledge, celebrate achievements, and showcase the diverse work of HIM professionals around the world. As the president, I encourage IFHIMA members, national associations, educators, researchers, practitioners, and partners to submit articles, share innovations, and tell the stories of what is happening within your countries and regions. We want to hear your voices.
As health systems around the world accelerate their digital transformation, the role of the Health Information Management professional is more important than ever. From digital health and ICD-11 implementation to data quality, governance, interoperability, privacy, and the protection of health information, our expertise is essential.
Regardless of where we are globally or the stage of digital transformation within our health systems, HIM professionals have a vital role to play and a right to have our voices represented at the decision-making table. We must continue to advocate for our profession, demonstrate our value, and actively help lead transformation.
Together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to ensure that technological advances translate into better information, better decisions, and ultimately better health outcomes.
Stay connected and stay tuned. There is much more ahead of us as we continue this journey together.
Thank you for your continued commitment to IFHIMA and to advancing our profession around the world.
Warm greetings from Barbados
