IFHIMA Board of Directors Report 04/2024

As part of their leadership role, the IFHIMA Board of Directors may be available to work within each of their respective regions or globally, to share industry perspectives as well as IFHIMA updates.  We welcome the opportunity to present to students, members, external parties and organizations, and governments.

You may request a presenter, along with the specified topic, by sending your request to marketing@ifhima.com.  Requests will be routed to the Board member within the region of the request, or to the Board member who has the requisite knowledge or time. Alternately, the request may be sent directly to a specific Board member from this page.  Please make the request at least four weeks in advance of the desired speaking date.

Virtual presentations can be generally accommodated.  In-person requests will be analyzed given the specific request and budget availability for travel.  

  • IFHIMA President Vicki Bennett gave the inaugural address to IHiiMA, the new India national association. IHiiMA President Dr. Sabu Mandapam welcomed Ms. Bennett and kicked off the February 2024 event.

 

  • Africa Regional Director Dr. Babale Garba Nafada participated in the annual quiz and debate conference at the School of Health Information Management Aminui Kano Teaching Hospital and Alhassan Ibrahim Dawanau College of Health Science and Technology, Kano, Nigeria – 22 February and 18 March 2024. Dr Babale also delivered a motivational speech on HIM careers and IFHIMA, that included the IFHIMA WHO NGO relationship.

 

  • Americas Regional Director Lynette Czarkowski delivered two student-oriented presentations thus far in 2024. Her January presentation was on Leadership for the University of Illinois graduating class and her March presentation on HIM Careers for the Illinois Health Information Association Symposium.
  • Europe Regional Director Dr. Guillermo Paluzie developed and delivered a five-hour virtual class addressing the “Conceptual Framework in Medical Documentation” in December 2023. Dr Paluzie delivered this program for the Barcelona Technology School, University of Barcelona.

 

  • Western Pacific Regional Director Sharon Campbell presented on “Privacy, Security and Confidentiality Considerations: Protecting Personal Health Information” in April through the University of Duta Bangsa, Surakarta in Indonesia. 

 

  • IFHIMA Past President Lorraine Fernandes, shared a World Health Day address in April built on the 2024 WHO theme “My Health, My Right” with the virtual audience on Talk Ten Tuesdays hosted by MedLearn Publishing. This weekly clinical coding event frequently includes presentations regarding ICD-11, and Lorraine shared updates about this topic within her address.
