As a lecturer in the Department of Health Information Management at the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Nigeria, I am deeply committed to advancing the role of Health Information Management (HIM) in strengthening healthcare systems. Being selected as a recipient of the IFHIMA Focus on the Future of HIM 2026 Scholarship further empowers this mission and fuels my desire to transform HIM practices in Nigeria.
In the past, HIM in Nigeria was narrowly perceived, primarily associated with issuing hospital cards and basic record-keeping. Although this understanding has evolved, it still influences how the profession is viewed today.
My journey in HIM began in 2010, when I enrolled in a National Diploma in Health Information Management at Plateau State College of Health Technology, Pankshin. Over the years, I have become increasingly passionate about broadening my perspective, and today, I am pursuing a PhD in HIM at the University of Port Harcourt, in Rivers State.
This scholarship offers me a unique opportunity to engage with the global HIM community, exchange ideas, and advance practices that align with international standards. I look forward to leveraging this experience to contribute meaningfully to the future of HIM in Nigeria and beyond.
