The IFHIMA Workforce Workgroup, led by Drs. Kerryn Butler-Henderson and Susan Fenton, will develop a white paper to meet the following objectives:
- Provide a snapshot of the history of the Health Information Management profession globally along with national highlights that have progressed the profession.
- Undertake an environmental scan of the current workforce and the systems the workforce services.
- Examine the literature about the workforce, the systems the workforce services, and technological trends to enable forecasting for the future workforce configuration and needs.
- Provide recommendations on how the profession needs to transform on a global scale to remain contemporary and relevant.
The Workforce Workgroup will begin meeting monthly from February 2020 with delivery of a final paper by March 2021. Participants will be expected to work independently to develop different sections of the white paper. It is anticipated to take an average of 10-15 hours per month.
