CHICAGO: 10 February 2021 – The International Federation of Health Information Management Associations (IFHIMA) announces the publication of its newest whitepaper – IFHIMA Fosters Planning for ICD-11 Adoption with Global Case Studies.

The IFHIMA vision is a healthy world enabled by quality health information. The IFHIMA Board of Directors believes that quality health information underpins all facets of healthcare policy, delivery system design, patient engagement, and the advancement of health and healthcare.

With this whitepaper, IFHIMA hopes to facilitate awareness and foster readiness within the global health community for the implementation of ICD-11.

The whitepaper and global case studies delve into some of the specific challenges, and accomplishments to date, that countries and health information professionals may anticipate as they embark on their organizations’ journey to adopt ICD-11. Topics include benefits of ICD-11, planning, transition from ICD-10 to ICD-11, workforce development and education, language translation, field testing and implementation.

The whitepaper and case studies were written with collaboration among a group of IFHIMA members from countries including Australia, Barbados, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Republic of Korea, Nigeria, Spain and the USA.

IFHIMA acknowledges and commends the World Health Organization (WHO) for their development of a wealth of information, training and reference materials available in support of the adoption of ICD-11.

The IFHIMA Board of Directors also thanks its sponsors for their financial contribution in helping to offset the cost of producing this whitepaper and for supporting its vision for a healthy world enabled by quality health information.

IFHIMA firmly believes that ICD-11 planning and implementation will be pivotal for improving health outcomes. The IFHIMA Board hopes this whitepaper and case studies will inform and inspire those who are embarking on their ICD-11 journey.

The whitepaper, IFHIMA Fosters Planning for ICD-11 Adoption with Global Case Studies, is available on the IFHIMA website, http://www.ifhima.org/
